I prefer the hookup wire and cable sleeving from [MDPC-X](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/). The shipping is a little pricey to the USA, but the quality is excellent.
## Which MDPC-X sleeve size do I need?
**Which wire size should I take for which sleeving size?**
- If you want to use XTC sleeving, use 15 AWG (1.50 mm²) wire.
- If you want to use SMALL sleeving, preferably use 15 AWG (1.50 mm²). The 17 AWG (1.00 mm²) wire needs much more skills.
- If you want to use MICRO sleeving, use the super thin EXTREME 17 AWG or our regular 17 AWG wire.
- If you want to bundle 2 of our 23 AWG wires into one sleeve, use MICRO sleeving.
- If you want to bundle 3 or more of our 23 AWG wires, use XTC sleeving.
- [MICRO sleeving](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/micro-sleeve "MICRO sleeving") can be used for cylindrical objects between ~1.5 mm to 4.0 mm in diameter. On very short distances you can move it over obstacles with a 4.5 mm diameter.
- [XTC cable sleeve](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/cable-sleeving-xtc "XTC cable sleeve") is the extreme version of classic SMALL sleeving, which creates a different look. Over the whole reduced expansion range, it provides the absolute maximum in coverage. XTC can be used for cylindrical objects between ~2.2 mm to ~5.0 mm in diameter. You can move the sleeving over diameters of ~5.5 mm at very short distances.
- [SMALL cable sleeving](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/cable-sleeving-s "MDPC-X SMALL cable sleeving") can be used for cylindrical objects between ~2.0 mm to ~7.8 mm in diameter. You can move the sleeving over diameters of ~8.0 mm at very short distances.
- [MEDIUM cable sleeves](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/cable-sleeving-m "MEDIUM cable sleeves") can be used for cylindrical objects between ~5.0 mm to ~14.5 mm in diameter. You can move the sleeving over diameters of ~15.0 mm at very short distances.
- [BIG cable sleeve](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/cable-sleeving-b "BIG cable sleeve") can be used for cylindrical objects between ~12.0 mm to ~24.0 mm in diameter. You can move the sleeving over diameters of ~25.0 mm at very short distances.
## Wire
- [EXTREME wire 17-AWG BLACK \| MDPC-X](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/17awg-extreme-wire-black)
- Thinner but stiffer than regular 17 AWG
- Co-polymer, so low friction
```
Made for [MICRO sleeving](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/micro-sleeve "MICRO sleeving"): Choose our black EXTREME wire 17-AWG / 1.00 mm² with an outer diameter of only 1.7 mm if the last fraction of a millimeter matters for your project. This EXTREME wire is the ultimate choice when it comes to minimizing the outer diameter, while keeping up a maximum of electrical performance. In case you want to create custom sleeved cables for the PCIe-5 12VHPWR connectors, this wire will make it as easy as possible in combination with our MICRO sleeve. This wire is slightly stiffer than our regular 17 AWG wire.
Highest quality tinned copper stranded conductors, a very beautiful high gloss and high heat resistant insulation free of prints and markings, 100% made in Germany!
Use black wire for all dark shade cable sleevings, to support the darkness of these.
## Technical Data:
- Stranded wire
- Tinned copper
- Black Copolymer Insulation
- -45°C to 125°C temperature range. Once braided with MDPC-X cable sleeving it is resistant from -58°C to +155°C. Short term peaks of 215°C can then also be handled without structural degradation
- Constant operating voltage: 900V, Test voltage 2.500V
- Electrical resistance per kilometer: max 18.5 Ohm
- [17 AWG (1.00 mm^2) hook-up wire Black \| MDPC-X](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/17awg-hookup-wire-black)
```
Use this wire size in combination with MICRO sleeve. Very experienced sleevers will also use it with SMALL sleeve, but it's not for the average user, because it requires perfect "length-stretch and fix the sleeving" skills. Do NOT use it with XTC, only use XTC if you bundle 2 or more of these wires into one XTC sleeve.
Black hookup wire is perfect to slightly tone down light cable sleeving colors. It's typically used with black sleeving and carbon sleevings, which include black.
Stranded 17 AWG hook-up wire Black, of course 100% tinned copper, no markings and coming as a beautiful large inner diameter ring to prevent spiral shaping as much as technically possible. At an outer diameter of only 2.00 mm, this is a class of its own.
Maximized conductor size for lowest resistance, minimized outer diameter: This is the uncompromising MDPC-X 17 AWG hook-up wire Black, of course 100% made in Germany.
## What's better than a high cross-sectional diameter?
**An even higher one!** The bigger the cross-sectional diameter, the lower the electrical resistance. Heating issues at high load? Not anymore!
18 AWG is the standard size used in todays computers. At an outer diameter of only 2.00 mm MDPC-X now brings you the next bigger conductor size of 17 AWG, because we can. The outer diameter of only 2.00 mm allows you to use 17 AWG now in the same way as you used 18 AWG before - ideal for push-in connectors like SATA THROUGH. This wire exceeds 18 AWG in electrical performance while being smaller or the same in outer diameter.
## Technical Data:
- This wire comes in rings of 10 meter lengths
- Tinned copper conductor in PVC insulation according to VDE 0812
- -30°C to 80°C PVC insulation, flame resistant according to VDE 0482-332-1-2. Once braided with MDPC-X cable sleeving it is resistant from -58°C to +155°C. Short term peaks of 215°C can then also be handled without structural degradation
- Constant operating voltage: 900V, Test voltage 2.500V
- Electrical resistance per kilometer: max 18.5 Ohm

- [15 AWG (1.50 mm^2) hook-up wire Black \| MDPC-X](https://www.cable-sleeving.com/15awg-hookup-wire-black)
```
If you want to use SMALL or XTC sleeve, this is the perfect choice! Black hookup wire is perfect to slightly tone down light cable sleeving colors. It's typically used with black sleeving and carbon sleevings, which include black.
Stranded 15 AWG hook-up wire Black, of course 100% tinned copper, no markings and coming as a beautiful large inner diameter ring to prevent spiral shaping as much as technically possible. At an outer diameter of only 2.50 mm, this is a class of its own.
Maximized conductor size for lowest resistance, minimized outer diameter: This is the uncompromising MDPC-X 15 AWG hook-up wire Black, of course 100% made in Germany.
## What's better than a high cross-sectional diameter?
**An even higher one!** The bigger the cross-sectional diameter, the lower the electrical resistance. Heating issues at high load? Not anymore!
16 AWG is the maximum size used in todays computers ... until now. MDPC-X raises the bar to the next bigger conductor size of 15 AWG, because we can. The outer diameter of only 2.50 mm allows you to use 15 AWG now in the same way as you used 16 AWG before - without any troubles getting the MDPC-X sleeved wire into your connectors. This wire will not be exceeded anymore in electrical performance for PC power supplies. This is the maximum - ahead of the industry.
