# Overview
Molex Micro-Fit 3.0 is a 3.00 mm pitch, positive-latch, fully polarized crimp connector system for wire-to-wire and wire-to-board power/signal. Rated 600 V, up to 8.5 A per circuit depending on terminal, −40 to +105 °C. It's the smaller sibling of Mini-Fit Jr. (4.20 mm).
The whole system is four decisions: **row count** (single or dual), **gender of the housing**, **circuit count**, and **terminal wire gauge**. Get those right and the part numbers fall out of a pattern.
The one thing that trips people up: the *plug* takes **male** pins, the *receptacle* takes **female** sockets — the terminal gender is the opposite of what the housing name suggests to most people. And gender is decided by the housing you buy, not by which end is "the cable."

Mating rules:
- `43645` receptacle ↔ `43640` plug **or** `43650` header

Single row and dual row are **not** cross-compatible.

Molex order numbers are 10 digits: a leading `0`, the 5-digit series, then a 4-digit variant.

## Crimp terminals — the "matching pins"
Two barrel sizes exist, plus a separate 18 AWG barrel. **There is no 22–28 AWG variant** — pick 20–24 or 26–30.

Third-party, unverified by Molex: **Engineer PA-09** is widely used by hobbyists and works with a printed terminal support jig; **IWISS SN-28B** gets mixed reports — jaw too wide for 20–24 AWG Micro-Fit, sometimes OK on 26–30.
## Current derating
Per-terminal maximums are the headline number; real designs need the derating table. From PS-43045 §4.3, 30 °C rise, all circuits energized, amps **per circuit**:

Other specs: contact resistance 10 mΩ max, mating force 8.0 N max/circuit, unmating 2.4 N min, terminal retention 24.5 N min, durability 30 cycles, −40 to +105 °C (tin) or +125 °C (gold / glow-wire housings).
# Decisions
Rules of thumb for picking parts:
- **Default cable-to-board build**: 43645 receptacle on the cable + 0430300007 female terminals, 43650 vertical header (`-CC15`) on the board.
- **Default cable-to-cable build**: 43645 receptacle + 43030 female one end, 43640 plug + 43031 male the other. Convention is to put **female sockets on the powered/live side** so exposed pins are never energized.
- **Bag vs. reel**: for one-offs and small builds always buy the bag part (`-0007`, `-0010`). Reel/cut-tape parts are cheaper per piece but arrive on carrier strip.
- **Tin vs. gold**: tin for power, gold for low-current signal or anything that gets mated repeatedly. Same current rating either way.
- **20–24 vs. 26–30 AWG**: two different crimp barrels and two different insulation OD limits (1.85 mm vs. 1.27 mm). Buy the barrel that matches the wire, not the one that matches the current.
- **Dual row above ~16 circuits**: mating force gets serious (8 N × N). Consider 46235 RMF terminals.
# Troubleshooting
**Terminals won't seat / won't lock in the housing.** Almost always the TPA variant. `43031-5xxx` (e.g. 0430315003) is visually near-identical to `43031-0xxx` but is designed for the TPA plug housing series 200875 only — it will not retain in 43640 or 43020. Check the middle digit: `43031-0***` = standard plug, `43031-5***` = TPA plug.
**Terminal fits but pulls back out under wire tension.** Locking tang wasn't cleared, or the crimp is on the wrong barrel size. Re-crimp with the correct die position.
**Bought a crimper and the terminals come out mangled.** Check gauge range on the tool. Micro-Fit is **30–20 AWG** (plus a separate 18 AWG tool). Anything marked 24–16 AWG is a Mini-Fit Jr. tool.
**Housing won't mate.** Single row and dual row are entirely separate systems. Also confirm both halves are Micro-Fit 3.0 (3.00 mm) and not Mini-Fit Jr. (4.20 mm) or Micro-Fit+ — the latter looks similar and uses different terminals (series 206460).
